Weekly News

In some ways it is hard to believe that we have a little over 4 weeks of school left.  In other ways, the beginning of the year seems likes years ago.  We have faced so many challenges this year, but have pulled together to do what is best for our students and each other! Each and every person in our building should be proud of what he/she has accomplished!

The following are a few updates and reminders as we approach the last month of school:

  • We still have a few ACAP makeups left.  These will be completed this week.
  • Thursday morning, First Baptist Church will provide faculty and staff with breakfast.
  • We will celebrate our teachers the first week of May during Teacher Appreciation Week.  More information to follow.
  • Year end assessment window (STAR & PS Express Math) is May 1st - May 15th.
  • We will have our final data meeting on May 21st.
  • Don't forget to load evidence for the remainder of the year in your PLP.  We will be conducting final evaluation meetings (for those on the cycle) in May.
  • We are working on the year end packet which will go out soon.
  • Our school leadership team will be meeting in the next couple of weeks to do some preliminary planning for next year.
  • We will provide information soon on year end awards for students.
  • 5th Grade Extravaganza is scheduled for Friday, May 14th (make-up weather day is May 21st).  It will be held outside at Faith.  We will follow all health and safety guidelines.

ACAP Testing

I would like to extend a special thank you to Christy Naylor and Ellen Ormond for the incredible job they have done with our school testing.  It is a big, important undertaking and they have done a wonderful job!  Also, thank you to everyone in our building for pulling together and being flexible during our testing weeks!

Family News

We are excited to announce (in case you haven't already heard), both Mica Nichols and Taylor Knuppel are having girls!  We are so excited for both of you and your families!

Year End Assessment Window
May 1-15

The testing window for STAR (EL for students are unable to complete STAR) and Performance Series Express Math (K-5) is May 1st - May 15th.  Please make sure they are completed by May 15th.  We will have our final data meeting on May 21st during collaboration time.  PS Reading & Science are optional.

PST Meetings

We will hold PST Zoom Meetings on April 29th and April 30th to discuss students who have made limited or insufficient progress.  Scheduling information will be provided by Dr. Brumlow, along with the Zoom link.

Library Dedication

Please see the beautiful dedication to Mrs. Jana LoPresti at the south entrance of the library.  She instilled a love of reading with countless numbers of children over the years.  How fitting that we place her name on this particular room in our building.  We have a special surprise we are working on in her honor.  Once this is complete, we will invite her family to a dedication in our library.  More information to follow.  Continued prayers for her family, friends, and students!

Weekly News

We all know that state testing weeks can be stressful, and that is especially true for this year.  Remember, this is only a single snapshot of what our students can do, but nonetheless, it is an important snapshot.  What our students can do starts in Kindergarten; we all have an impact on our students' learning....it is cumulative!  I could not be more proud of our students for their hard work during testing.  This type of work ethic and commitment comes from years of all of our teachers believing in our students and encouraging them along the way.  We have another week to gather this yearly snapshot.  As  I reflect on the additional pressure for teachers during testing weeks, it reminds me of how lucky I am to work with a group of colleagues that love our kids, encourage them, and work hard to inspire them!  Thank you for always making them (and each other) "feel like somebody".  You are the best!

It's the week our students in grades 2-5 have an opportunity to show what they have learned this year.  You have worked so hard to prepare them all year, so I know they will do great!  Please remind your parents of our testing schedule and the importance of our students being on time, getting enough rest and eating a good breakfast.  Please encourage students to do their very best!

Thank you to Mrs. Naylor and Ms. Ormond for all of the work you have put in to plan for state testing.  Thank you to all teachers in grades 2-5 and specialist teachers who participated in the creation of our two testing videos.  You all did the most amazing job!!!!   A special thank you to Mrs. Knuppel and Mrs. Rogers for producing the videos.  I believed our students are going to love them!  We will come over announcements on Monday at 2:30 to provide words of encouragement for students who will be testing the next morning.  Then, we will ask you to show the first video to your class.  We will come over announcements Wednesday at 2:30, again to offer words of encouragement regarding the math assessment, then ask you to play the math video for your class.

If you would like to preview the two videos, please click on the links below.  Remember:  please do not show them until the designated times Monday and Wednesday afternoon of next week (after the afternoon announcement).  Teachers in grades K & 1, please feel free to show them to your classes at the same time for their enjoyment and to tell them a little about what the other grades are doing.
