Math Skills Camp Signup

Dr. Lothspeich & Dr. Brumlow will be facilitating math skills camps in the Media Center on Monday, 4/5 and Tuesday, 4/6. This is for students Grades 3-5 who would benefit from explicit instruction, remediation, and/or extra practice in specific skill areas. Each session will last 45 minutes. Please see the schedule below of times for each grade level and topics to be covered. Please determine if you have students who would benefit from this additional support/skill development to better prepare them for ACAP testing. We are asking each teacher to limit the number of students to approximately 2-3 per session. Please use this opportunity for students who are frequently in math intervention, but are not getting support from a resource teacher. You may sign different students up for different sessions; please use your formative assessment data to make this determination. Please only include students who would benefit from this additional support/practice in the specified skill area.

Please use the link below to sign any students up for the Math Skills Camp (one form per student). These forms must be completed by Thursday at 3:15 so we have time to prepare materials.

Weekly News

I hope everyone had a great spring break and that you were able to rejuvenate.  We only have about 8 weeks of instruction left and 2 short weeks until state testing.  Although, state testing is not a primary focus throughout the year, it is now time to hyper focus on preparation for the next 2 weeks.  This is to ensure our students feel fully prepared and have confidence to take these assessments.

Please make sure your lesson plans (Grades 3-5) this week and next encompass review of concepts already taught and coverage of any key topics not covered; this includes intervention time for the next two weeks.  You may use the Print Partner resources in SuccessMaker for ELA.  We will provide math teachers with some resources produced by SuccessMaker to utilize for review, remediation, or practice.  (These may also be used as an intervention resource moving forward.)

We will be offering Math Skills Camp Sessions (45 minutes in length) on specific math topics/skills where students would benefit from remediation.  These will be held on Monday, April 5th & Tuesday, April 6th (more information below).

Please also utilize the ACAP testing course in Schoology by finishing the sections we have not completed with your students during Wellness Room coverage.  If you are in Grades 2-5, please utilize all available instructional time, including intervention time, to further prepare our students for the ACAP test.

This has been the most challenging of years, but we have pulled together and done a remarkable job!  Let's make very moment count and finish this year strong!  We've got this!

PST Zoom Meetings

We will have PST Zoom Meetings all day on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.  Dr. Brumlow will send you your scheduled time.  Please come prepared with updated data on your students.

AimsWebPlus Weekly Progress Monitoring

Please remember:  If a student is in PST for reading, on a reading improvement plan, or on an IEP with a reading goal....he/she must be progressed monitored every week in AimsWebPlus.  We will be discussing any gaps with progress monitoring in our upcoming PST Meetings.  If a student is out on quarantine, etc.  please make arrangements to progress monitor via Zoom or as soon as he/she returns.

Wednesday - ACAP Training

There is mandatory ACAP Testing Training in the South Collaboration Room on Wednesday, March 31st.  ALL certified staff MUST participate in this training (even if you are not in a testing grade).  There is always a chance anyone could be pulled to administer or proctor a test.  If there is an issue, please contact Christy Naylor immediately because everyone must be trained this week.

Thursday Afternoon

We will have our Math PLC from 2:15 to 3:15 in the South Collaboration Room.  We will discuss number talks.  Any teacher who would like a refresher in number talks is welcome.

Wellness Room Signup

We have completed the April Wellness Room Signup for teachers who will need coverage (yellow shaded slots).  We have been monitoring signup and have plenty of slots in the white (where coverage is not required).  If we signed you up for a slot with coverage, please go ahead and sign up for a second slot in April during your planning time on a day you would not need coverage.  Also, teachers who do not require coverage, please sign up for 2 of the "white" slots in April.  We would love to see everyone able to use the room twice in the month of April, even if it is just to take a breath and relax for a few minutes.  It is so important for us to take care of ourselves with the difficult work we are doing everyday!

Weekly News

We are just one week away from spring break and everyone has worked so hard this year!  I could not be more proud of our Paine Faculty and Staff! When we return from spring break we will only have two weeks before state testing.  Please utilize SuccessMaker to review and to revisit hard to teach concepts where students would benefit from additional practice.  Please continue to make every single day count.  We want our students to feel confident and prepared.  You are the best!

March PST Preparation

Please submit your electronic PST Student Updates and Referrals by Wednesday, March 17th.  The links have already been emailed to you.  We will have PST meetings via Zoom the week after spring break.

Spring Testing Schedule

Teachers, please communicate the spring testing windows to your parents in your weekly communication.  We have had some parents asking for this information.  The testing window is April 13th-April 22nd, with makeups continuing the week of April 26th if needed.  (Please note:  We will be testing virtual students in week 2 and this must occur in the building.)

We will have required test training for all teachers on Wednesday, March 31st during Collaboration.

Chromebook Preparation for Spring Testing

All 2nd – 5th Grade Teachers,
You received an email from our counselors about getting our Chromebooks ready for spring testing (see below).  Please make sure you read this carefully and providing information on the Google form by Friday, March 19th.

In preparation for spring ACAP Summative Testing, we must check that ALL Chromebooks belonging to 2nd-5th grade students have the DRC app needed for ACAP testing. All face-to-face students will begin testing on April 13th. In order for us to keep track of working devices and app updates, we have created a google survey similar to last year’s survey. This google survey needs to be completed by next Friday, March 19th.  All 2nd-5th grade Chromebooks in the school need to be logged into the DRC app by this date to receive app updates and link to the testing system.

Here is the link to the required survey - https://forms.gle/WNxwgMZGqf48CTJh9

Here are the directions for your students to check their Chromebook – these directions are also in the google survey.

How to find and update the DRC INSIGHT App: Please follow these steps exactly!

1. Have your students check each of their Chromebook for the DRC INSIGHT app by clicking on "apps" in the bottom left corner and then selecting "DRC INSIGHT Online Assessments."

2. Please make sure the students actually open the app, and allow the app to load until they see the page where "WIDA" and "Alabama" are displayed. This will verify that it runs properly and will ensure that the app is updated.

3. Once you make it to the WIDA/Alabama page, you can click "exit" and close the app.

If a Chromebook does not have this testing app, teachers should submit a WORF by March 19th. There are explicit directions in the Google survey to ensure that the Chromebooks receive the required update.  Please check every Chromebook in your classroom and all of the Chromebooks in the carts as well.

If you have any questions or need assistance please let Ellen or Christy know.

Virtual Learning Day for Students on Friday, March 12th

We have a virtual learning day for all students on Friday, March 12th.  TCS Curriculum & Instruction Department has developed a plan for Friday where students can review skills already taught and practice for ACAP (2-5).  They will utilize tests created in SuccessMaker.  C&I has also provided instructions on how to pull data reports to assess the data once the assignments are complete.

We see this as a great opportunity for review and test practice for our students, so please utilize these assignments and place on Schoology for Friday. If you need any assistance please let us know; we can work with you during Wednesday collaboration.

March 12th Plans

K-3 (Core 60 minutes) - Math (25 minutes), Reading (20 minutes), Science/SS (15 minutes), Specials (30 minutes)

4-5 (Core 90 minutes) - Math (35 minutes), Reading (35 minutes), Science/SS (20 minutes), Specials (30 minutes)

An assignment has been created in Successmaker for both ELA and Math for you to post in Schoology.  The assignment will be a review of skills to help identify mastery of skills before the ACAP and in determining next grade level readiness.

The time has been set at the default times listed above.  Your students should work in Successmaker until the session automatically ends.  If they finish early, it will be a good idea to have Enrichment activities created & posted for them.

For Science/Social Studies, consider having students read a non-fiction passage or work on graphing skills.
