TCS Foundation Grant Award Recipients

The Trussville City Schools Education Foundation Board of Directors visited Paine on Thursday, January 9, 2020 to surprise five of our teachers with a check for grants they submitted to the Foundation.  Congratulations to these teachers!
Chords and Coordination, Taylor Duren
This project is designed to connect music and fine motor skills during K-2. Playing instruments created by Karl Orff teaches students to not only coordinate with one another, but to incorporate fine motor skills to accomplish the learning objectives. Skills such as holding mallets correctly in both hands (similar to holding a pencil), moving hands together and hands separate, and crossing arms to create a pattern are all skills taught through using Orff instruments.

Kindergarten STREAM Dreams, Gina Lackey
Kindergarten STREAM Dreams (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, and Math) will challenge our students to develop critical language and literacy skills, boost creative expression, master early engineering concepts, build problem solving skills, and encourage cooperative learning. This project will easily link to our Lucy Calkins Reading and Writing Curriculum and our Stem Scopes Science Curriculum.

To Bee or Not to Bee-Bot, Penny Moore
Students will learn to think creatively, solve problems, work cooperatively and learn how to code. STEM is our future and Bee-Bots will help students learn how to program and code.

K-5 STEM Bins, Amy Ramer
Incorporating STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) manipulatives into the classroom is crucial for students to become creative and critical thinkers. STEM activities help students acquire the skills necessary to succeed in our constantly evolving technology-driven world.

Mobile STEM Lab PreK-5th Grade, Cynthia Weyerman
Students begin exploring applied mathematics, mechanical engineering, and robotics. Students focus on intuitive concepts like how to make things strong and how to make things move. As a result, they gain confidence in their ability to use technology to design solutions to problems.
