Important School Safety Plan Reminders

This is VERY IMPORTANT reminder:  If anyone orders food to be delivered to the school, it MUST be delivered to the front office.  Under NO circumstances are we to instruct a delivery person to go to a side or back door.

Please use this time to remind your students that they are NOT to open a door for any adult.  EVERY visitor must go through the front office.

Thank you for helping to ensure our school is safe!

Chromebooks

Our 3rd and 4th graders will be getting new Chromebooks this year (before testing).  Third and fourth grade teachers, please make sure you have every student's Chromebook and charger in your room before February 28th.  Please avoid sending them home during this time so we have the full inventory here at school.  Our Technology Department will begin trading them out on February 28th.

Black History Month

This week we will honor Black History Month during our morning announcements.  Daily precepts will be quotes from Famous Black Americans who have made an impact on our world.  Please consider using time in your morning meetings to discuss how these quotes can drive us to make an impact.  We are excited to see the student work from your classroom Black History Month lessons.  Some classes have already implemented these Social Studies lessons, and other classes are implementing this week.

Read Across America

Please communicate our Read Across America Dress-Up Days in your parent communication.

Read Across America Decoration Contest

Decorate your door or hallway with a book, author, or reading theme!

Creativity counts! 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes will be awarded:
1st place - $150 for your classroom
2nd place - $100 for your classroom
3rd place - $50 for your classroom!

Judges will score the displays on the afternoon of Friday, March 3rd.

Leadership Trussville Visit - March 9th

Community Leaders from Leadership Trussville will be visiting our building on March 9th.  Please take a little time before then to tidy up your classrooms.  Also, please make sure you have student work hanging outside of your classrooms.

Reminder:  Please make sure students collect all their belongings when you are lining up to leave the courtyard and playgrounds.  This will help us keep the outside of our building clean.

Paine Precepts - Black History Month

“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world” – Harriet Tubman

Born a slave, Harriet Tubman dreamed of freedom. Through strength, patience, and passion, she eventually escaped to become an abolitionist and a “conductor” of the Underground Railroad leading other enslaved people to freedom. She influenced and changed countless lives through her many roles as a nurse, Union spy, and women’s suffrage supporter – and her words and story still inspire us today.

“Never be limited by other people’s limited imaginations.” – Dr. Mae Jemison

Dr. Mae Jemison has always imagined a boundless future for herself. Not only is she the first African American woman to be admitted to NASA’s astronaut training program in 1987, but Dr. Jemison is also the first African American female astronaut! On September 12, 1992, she flew into space aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavor. She is also a medical trained doctor, served in the Peace Corps, and currently runs a medical technology company.

“Practice creates confidence. Confidence empowers you.” – Simone Biles

Simone Biles started practicing gymnastics at the young age of six, teaching herself to flip off mailboxes. Over the years, she did countless more flips to refine technique and skills – and to build the necessary confidence to become the success that she is today. Simone is now known as one of the sports’ greatest athletes with a combined total of 32 Olympic and World Championship medals.

“We did not come to fear the future. We came here to shape it.” – Barack Obama

With hard work and dedication to service, Barack Obama was persistent and insistent on shaping the future. He made his mark on history as the 44th president of the United States and the first African American to serve in the office.
