A Week

“Defining moments can be consciously created. You can be the architect of moments that matter.”
― Chip Heath, The Power of Moments: Why Certain Moments Have Extraordinary Impact

Custodian Schedule

We are so excited to announce that we will be utilizing a nighttime clearning service in addition to our current team of PES custodians.  Paine Elementary custodial staff will be responsible for all classrooms, library, teacher restrooms, teacher workrooms and offices. They will also be responsible for keeping the soap, paper towels, and toilet paper dispensers full in the restrooms.  We will be implementing a new schedule for each of our PES custodians based on these changes.

With the exception of the responsibilities of the PES custodial staff listed above the nighttime clearning crew will be responsible for the following:  all hallways, both gyms, including the upper area in the gym, both cafeterias, the nurses clinics, all bathrooms open to the hallways, and the office lobby.  All hallways will be buffed with a propane buffer every Tuesday and Thursday evening and surfaces will be dusted after buffing.

The nighttime crew will have access to our building between the hours of 4:00pm-2:00am Monday-Friday.  Please make it a habit to lock your classroom door each evening when you leave (since they will not need access to any classrooms).  The nighttime crew will begin on Monday, November 1st.

Team Member of the Month

Please use the link below to vote for our Team Member of the Month for INDIVIDUALITY.  Two team members will be honored with a parking space for the month of November and a $25 Amazon gift card.  Please vote by Tuesday afternoon so we can announce by Wednesday morning.

Tornado Drill - Thursday Morning

We will have a Tornado Drill right after announcements on Thursday.  Please make sure you review your designated location prior to Thursday.

Fall Festival - Thursday

Please promote our Fall Festival with your parents!  It is Thursday from 3:00 until dark.  We are going to have so much fun!  Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard on the preparations.  Ellen will be putting the detailed flyer on social media on Monday, and flyers will be in your boxes to send home.

Early Dismissal on Friday/Lunch Schedule

As reported to all TCS stakeholders, we will dismiss this Friday at 1:00.  In order to get all student fed and ready for early dismissal, we will need to make a minor adjustment to our lunch schedule.  All classes will go to lunch 5 minutes earlier than their scheduled time and only stay for 25 minutes.  For example:  If your regular lunch time is 12:00-12:30, you would arrive in the lunchroom at 11:55 and leave at 12:20 (25 minutes later).

Friday Freeze

Friday Freeze was originally scheduled for this Friday, November 5th.  Due to early dismissal, we will move Friday Freeze to Friday, November 12th.

Keeping the PACE Tickets

We will keep a supply of Keeping the PACE tickets in each mailroom.  Please get what you need from this supply and let's keep handing out those tickets!

ACAP Individual Student Reports

ACAP Individual student reports will be sent home with report cards on November 12th.  We will provide classroom teachers with the ACAP data on current students prior to that date.

Thank you all for your hard work, dedication, and commitment to continuous learning!!!

According to Gerhard Fischer, director of the Center for LifeLong Learning & Design (L3D) at the University of Colorado, Boulder, “lifelong learning is an essential challenge for inventing the future of our societies; it is a necessity rather than a luxury to be considered … It is a mindset and a habit for people to acquire. It creates the challenge to understand, explore, and support new essential dimensions of learning such as: (1) self-directed learning, (2) learning on demand, (3) informal learning, and (4) collaborative and organizational learning.” Fischer explains that lifelong learning “requires progress and an integration of new theories, innovative systems, practices, and assessment.” For teachers, putting in this kind of lifelong work will help better amplify their capabilities, collaborate with colleagues, and transform in turn the way their students navigate the world.

Arrangements for Brian Weyerman

Hello, I have been overwhelmed by the love and generosity of everyone at school. I can’t begin to thank you all enough. You are all such a blessing. I have attached the obituary and the service information is listed below. I appreciate you! Cynthia

A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:00 (visitation 5:00-6:00), on Thursday, October 7th, at Church of the Highlands Chapel, 4700 Highlands Way, Birmingham, AL 35210

OBITUARY

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Brian Weyerman of Trussville on October 3rd, 2021. He will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 27 years, Cynthia; children; Elizabeth, Abigail, and Isabella; in-laws, John and Sandra McCluskey; sister, Angela; brother, Burton; sister-in-law Gwen, and numerous other precious relatives. He will also be dearly missed by his much-loved coworkers and fellow church members. He was predeceased by his parents; Russell and Rita, and brother, Brigham.

Brian was born at Fort McClellan Noble Army Hospital in Anniston on December 28, 1970. Growing up Brian went to many different schools due to frequent moves before graduating from Ohatchee High School. He went on to graduate from one of his favorite places in the world, Auburn University and then received his MBA from Samford University’s Brock School of Business. He had a wonderful career as a mechanical engineer with the last 19 years spent with Mercedes Benz. Brian’s most treasured memories were travelling to all 50 states and multiple countries with Cynthia and his cherished daughters. He loved hiking, kayaking the Cahaba River, playing basketball, and watching football. He was known to be able to fix anything around the house or on a car and constantly trying to make people laugh. He was a faithful member of Church of the Highlands, knowing and confessing that his eternal salvation is secure through his Lord Jesus. “

Very, truly, I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.” John 5:24

A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:00 (visitation 5:00-6:00), on Thursday, October 7th, at Church of the Highlands Chapel, 4700 Highlands Way, Birmingham, AL 35210
