We would like to welcome Erin Piper to Paine Elementary.  Erin is currently an Assistant Principal at HTMS.  She will spend the next 3 weeks at Paine Elementary as part of the Principle Mentorship Program.

We will have PST Zoom Meetings Monday & Tuesday.  Please be prepared to share the following student data in our meeting:  Aims percentiles, progress monitoring data, mastery checks, current grades, etc.

ACAP Testing Schedule

ACAP Preparation Plan Link (2-5)

  • Please use the link below for the ACAP preparation plans for this week.  Our specialists teachers will go over the lesson with 2-5 students during skills/enrichment time on Tuesday (30 minutes).  
  • Classroom teachers, please also use the link to to allow your students additional exposure and practice in your classroom.
  • The lesson for this week includes the following:  
    1. Finding the DRC app on the Chromebook
    2. Logging into the practice session
    3. Basic navigation and basic tools
    4. Math Practice

Tuesday - Skills/Enrichment Rotation Location


The same ACAP lessons will be provided to students whether they are in the skills or enrichment rotation week.  The following are locations for Tuesday, which will be different this week due to the bookfair being in the library.  
  • Skills Rotations (2-5) - Meet in North PE Room
  • Enrichment Rotations (2-5) - No change (meet in designated specialist room).
  • K&1 - No change
Note:  Please make sure all students bring their charged Chromebooks.


Wednesday Collaboration

You may use this time for grade level collaborative planning.

ACAP Preparation Plan

ACAP testing will start on April 4th, so we will spend the month of March providing our 2-5 students with opportunities to become comfortable with the ACAP computer tools and practice.  We will send out a weekly plan on what to cover with students on the testing site.  Each week a link will be provided in the blog for teachers to access the student practice segment for the week (taken from our Lincsprings PD on ACAP Preparation.)  We ask that classroom teachers work with students on those skills (in addition to students working on these in Tuesday Skills/Enrichment).  

Our specialist teachers will also work on this with students during Tuesday Skills/Enrich time on the dates listed below.  Students who are scheduled for Skills for the week, will meet in the library (as usual)Students who are scheduled for Enrichment, will meet in Coach Pharis' PE Room (instead of their specialist teacher rooms).  Please make sure all 2-5 students bring their charged ChromeBooks.

2nd Grade Music Program Makeup

Our 2nd Grade Music Program for Group 2 has been rescheduled to Monday, February 14th at 2:00.


NAEP Testing - February 15th

A group of our 4th Graders will be taking the NAEP assessment on Tuesday, February 15th.  We will follow testing protocols, including no interruptions or announcements once testing begins.  We will need to ensure all students are closely supervised and quiet in the hallways.

ACAP Preparation - Lincsprings PD

The monthly district PD dates for both February and March will be utilized to prepare for ACAP Testing using Lincsprings.  The dates of 2/17 and 3/17 are designated on the calendar for district PD; however; you may want to trade out this time with other grade level planning times to allow you to complete this earlier.  Please complete this with your grade level PLCs.  Doing this early will allow you more time to prepare your students for ACAP testing (which is tentatively scheduled for the week after spring break).  The ACAP Preparation Checklist/Learning Cycle is already available in LincSprings.

Thursday - Early Release Time

You may either work on the learning cycle for ACAP or report cards.  Please plan to complete the learning cycle on ACAP by the first of March.


Friday - Virtual Day

Please remember to load assignments in Schoology and send Chromebooks home with students on Thursday.

Family News

Prayer Request

Please keep Tim Waldrup and his wife, Cindy in your thoughts and prayers in the days ahead.  Tim had a mild heart attack yesterday, and is in Grandview Hospital.  He is scheduled to have open-heart surgery on Tuesday.

Everyone is invited to a celebration in the media center on Thursday, February 17th at 7:15 am to honor Anna Seeley, Alyssa Vickers, and Jennifer Hunt.  They will all be welcoming baby boys soon!  Light refreshments will be served.

February - Black History Month

February is Black History month. Please integrate educational activities in your classrooms during February in recognition, such as historical fiction read alouds, writing prompts, etc.  Our Paine Precepts this month will be in recognition of Black History month.

Our assemblies for December and January student recognitions will held Tuesday on the PE Field.  Please refer to the schedule below for your grade's assembly time.

Team Member of the Month

Math PLC

Our math PLC will meet Thursday from 2:15 - 3:15 in the Media Center.  We will focus on how to develop a mathematical mindset with our students.

Valentines Day - Monday, February 14th

Each grade level is designated 2 parties per year:  1) Christmas and 2) Choice of Valentine's Party or End of Year Party.  If your grade level decides to have a Year End Party (instead of a Valentine's Party), you may bring in a special snack for Valentines and have students exchange valentines.
